On Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at the Greenville Convention Center the NG GOP held its state convention. There was no challenger for the current chair Michael Whatley and so he was re-elected to the position. There seemed to be a question as to whether a nomination would be brought forth at the last minute as Whatley had a booth full of volunteers passing out everything from food to signs people could hold up during the voting.
The position of Vice-Chairman was between Susan Mills and Sherry Womack. Although she was supported by Mark Robinson’s wife from Guilford County who nominated her, Womack was unsuccessful in her campaign. She delivered a loud feisty speech that had the crowd’s attention. During her lively speech she said as former military she has a problem with the American rights she fought for being taken away. Susan Mills, who won the seat, read a professionally written speech speaking to the various tasks ahead in her pretty in pink dress suit.
