BLM Mural Street Closures

Elizabeth City Police Chief Announces Street Closures Of Downtown Roads For BLM Mural Painting From June 17th To July 3rd

The art project birthed at the City Council’s May 24th, 2021 Regular Session meeting will come to fruition between June 17th and July 3rd as announced by Elizabeth City Police Chief Eddie Buffaloe.

The mural will involve painting between the 100 and 300 blocks of East Colonial Avenue.  East Colonial Avenue will be closed to traffic from South Road Street by the library to North Martin Luther King Drive.

Parking will still be allowed along Elliott and Pool Streets; however, vehicles who utilize these streets for parking will need to carefully back out onto either Main or Elizabeth (location depending) when exiting, as they will be unable to move forward onto Colonial.

To prepare our Customer Service office for this closure, beginning on June 14th, the satellite location on Griffin Street will be reopening from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The City Hall location will remain open for walk-ins; however, as we are closed to vehicular traffic, the drive-thru will be closed. Walk-up payments will be accepted at the kiosk.
