The Senate voted today to acquit former President Trump in his second impeachment trial. The vote was 57-43, with seven Republicans joining the Democrats. Senators needed a two-thirds majority to convict Trump.
The seven Republicans who voted to convict the former President were:
Richard Burr – NC
Bill Cassidy – LA
Susan Collins – ME
Lisa Murkowski – AK
Mitt Romney – UT
Ben Sasse – NE
Pat Toomey – PA
Burr’s vote to convict Trump prompted a response from N.C. Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley. “North Carolina Republicans sent Senator Burr to the United States Senate to uphold the Constitution, and his vote today to convict in a trial that he declared unconstitutional is shocking and disappointing,” Whatley said in an emailed statement.
